Towan Beach

Towan Beach
Outdoor activities within walking distance

Towan Beach is just outside Crest Courts’ front door, it’s our home beach. It is also the best beach in Newquay, OK; we know we are biased but bear with us whilst we justify that belief.
It’s very close to shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, takeaways and our apartment. That cuts travel time to a minimum, leaving more time and energy for fun. It is one of the safest beaches in Newquay. If you don’t want to leave the beach, you don’t have to (except for the tide). Everything you need is here, from coffee and cakes to Cornish pasties, fish and chips, and even a pina colada served in a fresh coconut! You can hire or buy most beach-related goods here, from buckets and spades to deck chairs and even beach wheelchairs. There is a great surf school just on the promenade. Lockers for hire and a shower for when you come out of the sea

Something For Every One

Rock pools, caves, a tunnel, and even the suspension bridge across to the famous Jago’s Island provide priceless, free fun. The golden sand is firm and easy to walk on, and in the season, RNLI Lifeguards are on patrol.

The beach is sheltered from the worst of the Atlantic swells by Towan headland, but don’t think that makes it tame. The “kiddie’s corner” wave is definitely for the experienced surfer. Watch out for the “harbour left” and “Bothwicks,” all favourites of the locals. It’s dog-friendly, and you can watch the boats going in and out of the harbour. When the tide is out, you can walk as far as Porth. Some people apparently leave a beach if it rains, but here it doesn’t matter because you can always visit the Blue Reef Aquarium, where the public toilets are, and yet another cafe.

You may think you know a better beach, but I’m afraid you won’t convince us.

Aquarium on Towan Beach

The Blue Reef Aquarium is easy to find – walk out the front door and look down – it is hard to miss as it’s blue, not surprisingly. With over 40 habitats represented, you can travel from the Cornish coast to exotic seas. See reef sharks, loggerhead turtles and giant Pacific octopuses. The centrepiece and highlight of your visit is a spectacular coral reef housed in an underwater tunnel. Here you will see fish of all sizes, from angelfish and puffer fish to moray eels and poisonouss lionfish.

There is also a friendly cafe and gift shop that are open to non-aquarium visitors.I think you can find this one without a postcode. (Hint: Look out of the front door)

Surf School on Towan Beach

Not all surf schools are the same; it’s important that you receive the right tuition based on your abilities and experience. SSS instructors are ISA qualified, and the owner, Stewart, is an offshore survival trainer, a North Sea rescue swimmer, a PADI dive master, and a Rescue diver. You’re in good hands.
The boards, tailored to your individual needs, are designed by the local pro surfer Ben Skinner. All students are provided with professional surf kit, including high-tech O’Neill wetsuits, boots, hoods, and gloves, which keep you warm and comfortable in the water all year round.
Regardless of whether you are in a group lesson, a couple, or a one-to-one, you can be sure that you will be well looked after.

Towan Surf Hire

5/5

When you head off to the beach, you don’t want to look like an expedition heading into some forgotten wilderness. Hopefully, the weather is tropical, and you want to carry the minimum amount of kit, even if the distance is only short from Crest Court. Towan Beach has you covered. Just on the promenade is Towan Surf Hire.
Here, you can hire most of what you need for a great day on or in the sea, including bodyboards, kayaks, S.U.P.s, surfboards, wetsuits, and deck chairs. And if you haven’t got a designated valuables minder, they can sort you out with a locker. The prices are fair, and the staff are friendly, allowing you to use your energy in the waves instead of carrying kit to and from the beach.

Fish and chips by the sea is a great British tradition, and when the chippy is almost on the beach, it’s a tradition well worth keeping.

Towan is our home beach, and we can’t see why you would need to leave it apart from when the tide is in or at night. Part of this view is because, at The Beach Bakery, you can get local Cornish pasties, homemade cakes, and Cornish cream teas. There’s no need to go hunting down food in town on a beautiful sunny day when everything you need is right here, and it’s all prime quality.
