The Harbour Fish And Grill

The Harbour Fish And Grill

Restaurants

If you’re staying in a dog-friendly apartment above a dog-friendly beach in a dog-friendly town, do you really want to eat your fish and chips out of paper on a bench at Killacourt? While it’s a great choice, and one that we’ve made ourselves many times, there are other options. For something more sophisticated, we recommend calling Aaron Janes and booking a table for you and your furry friend at The Harbour Fish and Grill, one of our favourite restaurants. If you decide to book, please let them know if you’re bringing a dog, as they have a room for people who prefer a dog-free environment. Overlooking the harbour, with views across seven beautiful beaches, it’s an experience not to be missed.
Aaron’s philosophy is to keep it simple yet elegant when working with the great fish we have in Newquay. This means you’re in for something special. Start with the Spider Crab Claws with Gremolata Butter or indulge in a main course of Roast Pollock, Shellfish Mash, Piperade, Mussel, and Chorizo Flamand. If you’re not quite full, the Orange Brioche Pudding with Clotted Cream is a perfect dessert to fill a gap.
Aaron is a local celebrity, having appeared on TV and headlined the Newquay Fish Festival while raising funds for the RNLI.
You’re on holiday, so why not treat yourself to real food cooked by a respected chef?

t Bush Pepper, Australia meets Cornwall in a fusion of flavours, but don’t expect an overwhelming number of novelty dishes. The Fish House Fistral

The Fish House Fistral

Restaurants

When you’re at the seaside, fish restaurants are a must-visit, and Newquay has plenty of excellent fish chefs. Paul Harwood is a prime example. He’s been in Cornwall for 25 years and is an avid surfer. He honed his seafood skills while working with Rick Stein in Padstow for 14 years.
Stop by for lunch and try the open fish finger sandwich or Cornish crab with homemade mayonnaise. The Fish House is dog-friendly at lunchtime, and the breathtaking views over Fistral Beach are a real treat.
In the evening, savour Balinese skewered monkfish or Indian fish curry. While they do offer a rib-eye steak, it seems like a missed opportunity with so much super-fresh fish available.
This is one of the best fish restaurants you’ll come across, and if you check out their website, you’ll find an impressive list of awards.

Butchers Bistro

5/5
Restaurants

The basics for a good restaurant are simple; Great produce, well cooked. Then you have a winning formula. At Butchers Bistro, they understand this, which is why the fish is Cornish, the meat is Cornish, and much of the bar stock is also Cornish.
I have to be honest and say that we have not visited here yet, but one of our guests had an anniversary meal here and highly recommended it. Watch this space for an update.
